Somatic Trauma Therapy for Women in the Greater Boston Area.

Does it often feel like your trauma symptoms are preventing you from living the life you desire?

In our work together, you will learn that trauma is not the event itself, but rather what happens when the body, psyche, and nervous system are unable to fully process overwhelming experiences.

Traditional talk-therapy focuses primarily on thoughts, beliefs, and insight. While this can be helpful, it can also leave the body behind- where trauma responses are often held and expressed.

Through judgment, shame, fear of bodily sensations, and learned patterns of coping, our ability to self-regulate can become disrupted. Sometimes, as a result of early trauma, our nervous system never learned this foundational skill. When this happens, we may find ourselves stuck in cycles of overwhelm, terror, or helplessness.

In our somatic, nervous system–informed trauma therapy work together, we begin by establishing safety and ease. Sessions may include awareness of sensations and emotions, pacing is always guided by what feels safe and manageable for you. Often, slower is better.

From there, the process unfolds through both acceptance and gentle change, as you become reacquainted with the felt sense of living in your body again.

This work can be especially supportive for women who feel stuck despite insight, overwhelmed by their emotions, or disconnected from their bodies.
