Somatic Trauma Resolution

Resilience can emerge from pain when you are supported in integrating what happened.

Nature has instilled in all mammals, including humans, a nervous system capable of restoring balance.

However, in humans the rational mind often overrides the body’s instinctual response following overwhelming stress and trauma. We try to keep it together and are afraid of losing control.

We may try to selectively close ourselves off to certain emotions. In our attempts to avoid the painful things we experience through our bodies- grief, illness, anger, loneliness, to name a few- we end up sacrificing the good, the beautiful, and the joy.

Trauma is not a disorder or illness, but rather an adaptive injury to the nervous system that occurs when a person is exposed to overwhelming experiences without enough safety, support, or choice to process them at the time.

Using tools from Somatic Experiencing, Somatic Trauma Resolutions supports you in resolving symptoms of stress and trauma so you can build deeper, healthier, and more stable relationships with yourself, others, and the world around you.

We will learn how to develop an increasing tolerance for difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions that will help you discharge stored survival stress and access safety within, no matter what happens around you.

The work of somatic trauma resolution isn’t about “finding the silver linings.” Rather, it’s a way to address the completion of self-protective responses (fight/flight/freeze/fawn) within the nervous system and the body.

Through this process, you will see your body as an ally and learn to develop an increased ability to be with the vast experiences of life- from pleasure to pain and all the shades in between.
