Trauma-Sensitive Yoga & Somatics
Check back soon for the next class!
Survivors of trauma need to have physical and sensory experiences to shift out of protective survival responses (fight/flight/freeze).
In Trauma-Sensitive Yoga & Somatics, the goal isn’t for your practice to look any specific way. Rather than a strong focus on alignment or breathing, the postures and practices in this class are used as a framework to discover a connection with your body that feels accessible, safe, and comfortable.
Trauma-Sensitive Yoga & Somatics empowers you to notice, be curious, and observe.
By learning to reconnect with your body on your own terms, you begin the process of befriending your inner experience, tolerating your sensations, and learning to follow your body’s lead rather than the mind always paving the way.
Trauma-Sensitive Yoga & Somatics emphasizes making choices that support your comfort and safety.
Trauma itself is the experience of not having a choice. This profound lack of choice can have a great impact on a survivor's life, including a deep sense of fear or helplessness.
We create an environment that supports you in recognizing where and when you have control. We practice making choices as a way to help you to regain personal agency and a felt sense of control over your life.
Feel free to try something, and if that doesn’t work, try something else!
Attending to your body, noticing what is or is not comfortable, and making choices according to those observations is truly at the heart of Trauma-Sensitive Yoga & Somatics.
